More photos of a typical auction of affordable items, in Indiana. Enjoying an Ellenberger Auction, more photos
You could have bought this sleigh rather cheaply, if you had been there. There were, as usual, many surprises in closing prices.
Cool architectural salvage courtesy of Craig Leonard, Blufffton Indiana's own resident architectural historian. He literally moved his historic home out into the countryside, on the banks of the Wabash.
This sign was used as a pointer for a while. It really helped me to know what was on the block. I wish all the auctioneers used this all the time. Auctions are the ultimate "snooze you lose" experience. It gets exhausting, all that concentration!
The clerk of the auction has a stressful job, marking down every winning bidder's number with the name of the item and its price, while the auctioneers rush on with the next item.
Sometimes the auctioneers get frisky and make one of their gang model an item on the block. Good sports survive.
This adorable fellow turns out to be a spittoon. You step on his head, and his shell pops open. The newspaper clipping authenticates its age. Someone has enhanced it with a bit of paint. He's big, and extremely heavy to lift, being cast-iron.

Two of the many postcards available at the auction. The top one is a New Years greeting for 1911, with gold foil and embossing, beautiful writing and exquisite color. The postcards must have been printed on non-acid paper, because they keep so well.
This unusual cookie jar had Mickey on the front,
Minnie on the back. Or vice-versa!
Bill Weinhardt paused beside two folk art life-size figures, one of whom was Ronald Reagan wearing a campaign button for President Nixon. You could have bought either of these unique figures to sit in your living room, your car or your store. Don't miss this kind of opportunity next time!

From time to time even the writers change their opinions. Several of us are of two minds about some things.
