Whatever's Happening With Our Tentative Times?

If I can take the time to record this, it would be helpful to know what is being added and updated in this new family of magazines, Our Tentative Times, Otto for short. Or it will just be good to have a place to whine, moan and wail....

7 September 1998, Monday, Labor Day

Today was a very busy day of small improvements, a couple of new pages (Marcia Ball and Johnny Favourite Orchestra in the Frog Island section) and lots of updating of music pages, city notices etc. Lots of work on graphics. Lots of email to handle, since I was gone for 4 days. Computer still very ruined by my trying to install Front Page 98.

September 3, 4, 5, 6

We went to Indianapolis for Bill's cancer check-up. Bought supplies and accessories for the digital camera. Tried to find computer books that would explain Front Page. (No luck.) Took a lot of photos in hopes of getting some for the free graphics section. Went to public library to look for help on my graphics. Tried to shop for a new computer with 64 megs of memory instead of 32, but the Gateway store in Indianapolis said we needed to order over the internet, and we can't make the site come up on either my computer or my husband's. We have tried ever since I tried to install Front Page '98. I don't know anyone who can advise us.

We did see "Armageddon" (fun special effects) and "Seven Days and Six Nights," (funny.) We ate at Planet Hollywood and walked around downtown. We visited Fountain Square for the '50s "antiques" and bookstore. It was really nice to get away from home. I've about quit going to hear bands, as I can't find out the musicians' names or much about their schedules.

2 September 1998, Wednesday

Finished the Marfa section for Magdalin's trip. This was a very major, exhausting project. Handled email. Added the links to Marfa. Changed the photo on the cover of the magazine and the photo on the music index. Fixed a want ad. Changed Rocky Horror Picture Show and did household banking.

1 September 1998, Tuesday

No work today, Food Bank closed this week. Worked on the music index, ribfest index, bluesmen of ribfest, Red Ball Jets at ribfest, Blue Moon Boys at ribfest, faces at Ribfest.... Finished all 6 pages and uploaded this new section. Huge project!

31 August 1998, Monday

Made page for Clint and linked to it. Worked on Mark Kinnaman's site that I do. Reworked notices, humane, a lyrics page and music index. Tried to load Front Page 98 and had a disaster with my hard drive. Could not make it recognize that I am not my own server. It ruined most of my programs, and everything crashes constantly, when it will run at all. I have to completely shut down and restart the computer whenever I want to use my internet, email or FTP.

29 and 30 August 1998, Saturday and Sunday

Scanned photos for Marfa section all weekend and worked on those pages.
27 and 28 August 1998, Thursday and Friday

Redid Mark Kinnaman's pages and made pages for his catalog that he mails out. Lots of graphics and page work on his material. I learned a lot. Thursday I worked at the Food Bank in the afternoon.

26 August 1998, Wednesday
Worked on the Marfa, Texas project for the James Dean magazine, Deaners.
25 August 1998, Monday
Spent the day editing photos from last weekend. Also went to my day job. Planned the new James Dean section. Found a kitten outside and had to take care of it, as it is not well.

24 August 1998, Monday
Continued working on the nav bars and image maps for the indexes. Moved a commercial site off algonquin.net into parlorcity.com. Reworked ten Gene Stratton-Porter pages with new footers and stuff. Changed the James Dean index into separate tables so it will load faster. Re-upped jdindex.html and my other dean index on my old site.

Answered email and fixed two bad links that Jim Rees in Michigan kindly told me about. Those of course led to lots of reworking the Twistin' Tarantulas pages where I had put it in two directories and omitted the photos in one, and I will never get it straightened out, for I have a dozen links to those pages all over my site. I am less than happy with meself.

23 August 1998, Saturday
Lots of email. Tried to make nav bars for each of the 5 magazines. Tried to redo the indexes for each magazine. Edited pics from Sat. night. Very discouraging. Had to find and send photos for a print publication about Rockabilly for an article Mark Kinnaman wrote. Discouraging day. Company here in afternoon, so I couldn't work.

22 August 1998, Saturday
Had to go to Checkerz, Peanuts and Pieres to see bands. Also checked out the Rock-n-Horse, House of Jazz and Blues and Columbia Street West, but just for crowd size. Wanted to get to Eli Sinatra's Jazz Joint but couldn't, and I need someone to tell me about that band. Every place but Checkerz had every seat filled and lots of standees.

Split one night gigs and music gossip into two separate pages. Fixed 4 Hillbilly Hellcats page problems. Edited photos endlessly.

21 August 1998, Friday
Today I made the complete site for Friends of the Third World, something I had wanted to do since last November. Today I made the time. It has 3 pages and will have an order form for the store part.

Made an image map for the new site. Shrank it. Ruined the program. Made a new one. Answered email. Wrote a new page about the CDs I acquired recently.

20 August 1998, Thursday
Am staying home tonight to work on these pages. Made a new page for Clint, the barber at the Fountain Square Theatre building. Cool guy. Made a page for Actual Size. Added JavaScript to several pages and called support for help with my HTML program. That was very helpful. I should do that more! Fielded two Humane Society phone calls and went to my day job. Handled moderate amount of magazine email. Did dishes and worked in the yard.

Made a complete page for Destination Detox, a punk band. That was a change! Added a link for it. Just can't do any more tonight. It's midnight.

19 August 1998, Wednesday
Researched a topic for a computerless friend. Made the Little Brian Terry and the Zydeco Travellers page for Frog Island section and added names to two of the picture pages there. Updated Frog Island index. Handled email inquiries.

Edited photos from last night, Destination Detox and Suicide King.

Spent some hours on new graphics, because I was becoming a page machine, stamping out pages with no soul.

Reluctantly dragged myself to Fort Wayne, consulted on some music problems, went to Peanuts for the big South Park party and hot wings contest, heard Actual Size, had to leave to catch Not My Kids at House of Jazz & Blues which turned into a lively evening, but not until the last set. Not too many people there (only neede one server,) and they were not about to dance. It's hard on a band when people don't dance. Still was home in time to work on pages until I slept.

18 August 1998, Tuesday
Busy day. Made two pages from Frog Island: Eddie Shaw and Chubby Carrier. Updated Frog Island index and music index. Work didn't need me so I came home and did housework and laundry for two hours! What a break!

Edited all the photos and made the Radio Daze page, a big job. Added links about their upcoming shows at Pierre's on the next few weekends. Edited many more photos from the past weekend. Added Tim (Andersen) Bel Air's dad's picture to a commercial site that I needed to update, Kinnaman's. Added material to that commerical site. Added a link to one of the worst band pages I ever made. Maybe it's better than no publicity at all....

Going to Columbia Street West Tonight to see Destination Detox since the lead singer is outta the slammer. It's been ages since we got to hear them. They are on the bill with Suicide King. Worked on my other diary for my personal site.
17 August 1998, Monday
Quite a bit of email, for a change. One person demanded to know why I didn't have a certain picture on a page. What do they think I do all day??

Redesigned one band's section and edited a lot more of their pictures.
Began a classified ad section. Consulted with the family of a crime victim. Worked on two incompatible format problems from people sending me material for the magazines. Fielded a Humane Society phone call. Forgot to get laundry from washer. Paid a stack of bills and charity requests. Networked with sites that post lyrics.

This diary/log has another page of the older entries. Probably no one will find it!

Page credits are, cleverly, on my credits page.
