Tragic
news tonight (1/12/2005) from Holland. Mari reports
that Louise Donk has died, killed by someone who threw a
large rock off an overpass. Louise was driving out from
under the overpass and the rock smashed the windshield and hit her
in the face. David Loehr learned this by email tonight. He
told Mark Kinnaman who called me and Pamela Crawford.
Louise and Mari hosted Jamie DeWeese when he went to Europe in the
summer of 2004.

JDR member Brian Stites is involved in an exciting James Dean project celebrating 50 years of Rebel Without A Cause. Working through the non-profit organization Barely Balancing Artists, the project celebrating the 50th anniversary of REBEL includes an off-Broadway production of the landmark film. The group hopes their attention to this important film will not only honor it but also demonstrate the film's continuing relevancy in cinema and society today. ********** PBS DOCUMENTARY ON DEAN **********
JDR was recently contacted by representatives of PBS (in NYC) about a new documentary they are filming on James Dean for their American Masters series. The documentary is set to air in the year 2005. This documentary is the Public Broadcasting System's nod to the 50th anniversary of James Dean's movie career and tragic death on 9/30/55. PBS is interviewing friends and family of Jimmie to add authenticity to their film so they contacted us for a list of some of those acquaintances. PBS reps recently spent time in Marfa, Texas interviewing people who had the opportunity to get to know Jimmie during the making of GIANT. One of their representatives, Jim Brennan of NYC, assured me that their documentary will be as accurate as humanly possible and will avoid sensationalism. We'll let you know as soon as we find out the exact dates the documentary will air. PBS is also working with Johnny Calderon, JDR member and Director of the Marfa Chamber of Commerce, about possibly airing the documentary during Marfa's July 2005 GIANT celebration.
Calling All Fifties Buffs: I recently discovered a cool little book called ROSE COLORED FIFTIES: A Perfect View of the Past in Barnes & Noble. As one would expect, there's a two-page spread on Jimmie in this nifty little book. The book also comes complete with a 30-minute DVD documentary on the Fifties that includes scenes from Rebel Without a Cause. This cool little package sells for $14.95 in the US and $22.95 in Canada. If you love James Dean and the Fifties, you'll love this little book!

Check out John McEnroe's new book, You Can't Be Serious. Does that pose remind you of anyone? Although McEnroe definitely comes with his own prerequisite ATTITUDE, someone needs to tell him that no one can ever fill Jimmie Dean's shoes -- or his overcoat! However, Jimmie just might feel a kindred -- rebellious -- spirit with tennis' favorite bad boy.
