Here by mistake? Need LINKS OUT?The setting: in the tent at Frog Island Music Festival, 1998, Satuday night, June 27. A huge enthusiastic crowd is held spellbound by the power of Sam Meyers, and by the delight of the Anson Funderberg ensemble. The program read "From Texas to Chicago, the fabulous guitarist and the veteran blues belter are masters of some of the country's tastiest, hardest-hitting blues." Anson Funderberg and The Rockets, featuring Sam Meyers
Anson Funderberg is another of the names that comes up regularly on the Rockabilly Mailing List. He is highly regarded there, and ranked with the greatest musicians alive, in the fans' estimation.
Anson's wife Renee sang beautifully, opening the show.
It was hard to believe I was really in the presence of the legends, Anson and Sam Meyers.
The most unusual thing happened with Sam Meyers. He actually thanked the audience for coming out and supporting live music. He said none of them could be doing this without the fans. It was the first time anyone had ever said that in my memory. Thanks, Mr. Meyers, I'm still glowing.
