Rick Monroe came from California

Majic 95.1FM was kind to bring us the talented, friendly and striking Rick Monroe from California. Rick's CD is available now. Be on the lookout for it. It's too bad that the weather was close to unbearable, both for Rick and for the audience. Many people were at home in the air conditioning while Rick performed. I hope he plays again for us, as he is destined to be a national star.

Rick's guitar playing buddy was supposed to accompany him on stage, but he missed his plane. Rick handled that well, soloing.

If anyone is still doing counted cross-stitch, this posterized photo would work up into a cross-stitch pattern. Just enlarge it a lot and print it out in color, then lay your transparent grid over the picture.

Here's a bonus picture to make up for my woeful lack of other information on this page. What is the name of Rick's CD? Where is it available locally and on-line? Who did he remind you of? Rick reminded me of Bruce Springsteen in looks, but he didn't leave me feeling all depressed the way The Boss does. He held my attention just like Steve Forbert. Rick rocks hard; he bares his soul. He has tremendous talent. Won't it be fun to say, in future years, "I saw him play in the beer tent at the second Original RibFest '99, right here in Fort Wayne, Indiana."

Update on Rick Monroe

May 17, 2000, Tell-Mama received this informative message from Bill Ferguson at Divorce Records.
Subject: Update on 1999 Rib Fest Musician, Rick Monroe

Dear Sandra,
I wanted to let you know what LA based Independent artist Rick Monroe has been up to since you covered his appearance on that rather hot day at the Rib Fest. In the past 12 months he has toured the US, playing shows and appearing on television shows in markets ranging from Lafayette, LA to Chicago, IL. He had two Top 40 singles, played a dozen dates in Bosnia and Kosovo for US and NATO troops at bases throughout the region. This summer per the request of the US Ambassador to Vietnam, he and his band Possum, which consists of members from 5 countries, USA, UK, Sweden, Norway, & S. Africa, will play at the Hanoi Opera House in Vietnam on the 4th of July. The performance will be the centerpiece of a celebration of the 5 year anniversary of the re-opening of diplomatic relations between the countries.

For additional information please take the time to view Rick's site. If you need for me to mail you some promotional material please let me know at divorcerec@earthlink.net
If you are in LA, the band will be headlining the Roxy in Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at 10:15 pm.
